| Metso’s automation technology wins orders for major infrastructure development projects in South America |
| Metso DNA provides accurate production information online, ensuring proper and rapid response to plant events and allowing maximum safety and efficiency in operation
Metso will deliver its automation technology to two major infrastructure projects currently under construction in South America: Belo is the world’s third largest hydroelectric plant in Brazil and the TUY-IV project in Venezuela is a dam project aiming to supply water to Caracas. Both orders have been placed together with orders for Metso crushing and screening plants. Metso is the leading mining and construction machinery and service supplier and the only supplier with a purpose-developed automation system included in the product offering. “Automation technologies are gaining in popularity for mining and construction applications as the demand to improve production process efficiency has been increasing due to the scarcity of raw materials and energy sources and their ever-climbing costs. These two orders are good examples that indicate the growing development of this trend,” says Product Manager Mikko T. Mäkinen from Metso Automation. Metso’s scope of delivery to both customers will include complete automation: Metso DNA will control and monitor the primary, secondary & tertiary crushing and the loading area. The plant can be operated by using graphic screens on desktop PCs or local control boxes spread throughout the field. The 11,233 MW Belo Monte hydroelectric power plant is scheduled to begin commercial operation in January 2015. Delivery to the Venezuelan dam project is scheduled for the first quarter of 2012, and project startup is expected to occur the same year. Metso DNA automation system meets diverse mining and construction industry needs All Metso deliveries to mining and construction customers can be specified to include the scalable Metso DNA automation system that adapts to the diverse mining and construction industry needs, from single machine controls to entire plant-wide automation and information management systems. An example of Metso’s latest offering is the new crushing plant control room solution that connects crushers and screens together, ensuring an effective management of the entire plant from a pleasant and safe control room. The Metso DNA user interface provides production information to allow a proper and rapid response to plant events. Automatic controls stabilize the process and enable the operators to monitor the plant as a whole. Metso DNA Metso’s long experience in automation systems dates back to 1979. So far, Metso has delivered thousands of systems to various process industries globally. Metso DNA is a single automation system for all functions – process, machine, drive and quality controls.
