Metso Introduces The All-New KajaaniPaperLab With The Freedom To Move Off-Line And At-Line
The new-generation kajaaniPaperLab
Automated Paper Testing Laboratory provides paper and board makers with even
more freedom to manage quality. Now, paper testing can be moved from the lab
also right out next to the line. Suitable for testing all grades of paper and
board, kajaaniPaperLab offers the widest selection of industry-standard tests
for over 400 properties with full ISO 9000 compliance.
Additionally,
kajaaniPaperLab is highly modular to match individual mill environments.
Available in S, M, L and even XL, kajaaniPaperLab is easy to upgrade as needs
evolve. All modules work together as a seamless package to ensure an enhanced
level of productivity.
The first deliveries of the all-new
kajaaniPaperLab are scheduled for March 2009.
Metso was granted the
Fennia Prize 2009 award for the kajaaniPaperLab product design by Design Forum
Finland.
Higher performance through automated
testing
Automated testing enables more frequent, accurate and
repeatable test results. With these, a mill can quickly make necessary
adjustments and get back to running paper production on-spec. This is directly
linked to optimal raw material and energy utilization as well as minimized
environmental impact.
Both off-line and at-line
The
all-new kajaaniPaperLab moves testing to the spot that gives the greatest
value. When used at-line, the machine operation team can run the most critical
tests on their own for 24/7 machine operation on-spec. Results transfer
immediately to the automation system for process management control purposes.
For a more thorough analysis of samples or for validating machine floor
operation, being off-line in the lab either 24/7 or during regular daytime work
shifts may be an ideal choice.
Scalable, modular and personalized
A key design feature of the new-generation kajaaniPaperLab is its
modularity to better respond to the industry's demands for enhanced
productivity. Modularity is also extended to the measurement platform itself
(S, M, L or even XL) to provide a perfect tailor-made fit to specific mill,
business or technical circumstances.
A mill can begin with a few
modules and then grow with time. Existing platform building blocks and PaperLab
modules can be fully utilized as part of the new system.
Ergonomics,
safety and ease
kajaaniPaperLab is compact in size, freeing up more
space in the lab - or making it easy to take next to the line. Plus, it has
been specially created with a fresh, modern look. The new design takes
ergonomics and ease of use to a more sophisticated level. Many new safety
features - for example the redesigned sample feeding unit and automatic module
frame opener - make operation easier so that all users need not be highly
skilled laboratory personnel. Upgraded software and four new measurement
modules add even more to ease of use and testing efficiency.
Optimized heavy-duty package
kajaaniPaperLab is
optimized to work as a complete package rather than being pieced together from
various bench-top instruments. It is constructed of heavy-duty elements to work
together for top performance, now also in the rough operating environment of
the machine hall.
Compliance with ISO 9000 and other standards
As a vital part of validating the product value from the process,
kajaaniPaperLab complies with the most rigorous testing standards and
calibration procedures of ISO 9000 quality certification.
Low life
cycle costs
The best return on investment comes through low cost of
ownership, excellent reliability and superior performance. Therefore, existing
previous-generation PaperLab testing modules can be included in the new
kajaaniPaperLab. To extend the product life cycle and lower the cost of
ownership, Metso uses Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) in developing its
product maintenance programs.
Picture. The all-new kajaaniPaperLab
off-line and at-line provides great results with managing and optimizing the
paper and board making processes. Now you have the freedom to choose how and
where you perform automated laboratory testing.
