Kojair Tech Oy, based in Tampere, Finland, is
launching its new Biowizard Golden Line Class II range of microbiological
safety cabinets. They offer protection and optimal working conditions to the
user during the handling of hazardous and potentially hazardous organisms, as
well as protection to the environment because the discharge to atmosphere is
HEPA-filtered.
The principal feature of the company's new
clean-room-compatible Biowizard Golden Line Class II cabinets is that they are
virtually silent in operation, generating under 52 dB(A). At 13 dB (A) below
the requirement of EN12469 of 65 dB(A), the new cabinets offer operators the
highest available standards in their working environment. Kojair Tech is
currently in the process of patenting the unique construction of the Golden
Line units.
The first of the new cabinets has already been delivered to
Helsinki University. Denmark's Biocenter in Copenhagen has placed
an order for 56 cabinets. Ten more Biowizard Golden Line cabinets are destined
for Switzerland and further units have been ordered by a number of German
companies.
Effects of noise
Users tend to work for long
hours in close proximity to microbiological safety cabinets. Feedback from
users all over the world and recommendations from the European Agency for
Safety and Health at work, which studies the effects of work-related-noise,
have influenced the design of the new Kojair models. Noise can put an
undesirable load on the brain, which may lead to physical or mental harm. Not
only can high sound levels affect hearing, they can also increase stress levels
and blood pressure as well as reduce concentration, creativity and
comprehension. According to Pertti Mäntylä, CEO of Kojair Tech: "An
operator working in a quiet, well-protected and safe environment will be more
efficient and the results are more likely to be accurate if the ergonomics are
sound."
Practical ergonomics and shadow-free work area
The new Biowizard Golden Line cabinets offer not only quiet running
and protection against hazardous organisms. They have also been developed with
advances in practical ergonomics, user comfort and a streamlined, easy-to-clean
design in mind.
Four cabinet models are available with working widths
of 885 mm, 1190 mm, 1535 mm and 1840 mm x 570 mm deep x 740 mm high, which are
mounted on an adjustable base unit. The electrically operated front window is
slanted backwards (away from the user) to give a clear view of the work area.
Fully adjustable light tubes - from 750 to 2000 lux - ensure shadow-free
lighting over the whole working area. An arm support is provided for the
comfort of the operator when handling specimens.
A 3-filter version of
the Biowizard Golden Line to meet the requirements of Class II B (DIN 12980) is
also available.
