VIVA FLEXIBLE COUPLINGS
FROM REXNORD INSTALL EASILY AND EXTEND LIFE OF CONNECTED EQUIPMENT
MULTIPLE-USE PARTS ALLOW PLANT-WIDE REPLACEMENT WITH SMALL
INVENTORY
A global line of flexible couplings
designed to extend machinery life and reduce downtime in rotating equipment
applications has been introduced by Rexnord. The new Rex Viva ATEX certified
couplings are designed to metric standards. They meet ANSI, ISO, and DIN
specifications and can be adjusted easily at the user site to accommodate wide
variations in shaft spacing.
Since they can be used in a wide range of
general purpose coupling situations, they are ideally suited for plant-wide or
company-wide standardization, including retrofit of other coupling
technologies. Reversible hubs and optional mounting holes allow the Viva series
to meet coupling requirements with significantly lower inventory than other
systems. Full stock is maintained in Belgium for rapid delivery to European
customers.
Designed to extend equipment life
The
non-lubricated torsionally soft couplings use a polyurethane material specially
formulated for durability, vibration dampening, fatigue resistance and
environmental compatibility. The elements cushion shock loads and accommodate a
relatively high degree of unavoidable equipment misalignment. They are bonded
to corrosion-resistant coated shoes, eliminating the need for mechanical
clamping hardware. Carbon steel shoes are standard; stainless steel shoes are
available.
Bearing life in connected equipment is extended because the
flexible element of the couplings maximizes torque capacity while minimizing
stress. The center notch, shaped like the letter V, channels the highest
stresses away from the urethane to metal bond area, providing a uniform failure
area that reduces potential damage in case of overload.
Fast, easy
installation
Because the element is supplied in two semi-circular
pieces, it can be quickly bolted into place without disturbing the hubs or
moving and realigning connected equipment. This design allows faster
replacement than clamped elements (known as "tire coupling" design). Capscrews
are supplied with self-locking nylon thread patches.
Small inventory
handles many situations
Hubs are reversible, reducing inventory
requirements, and easily aligned to accommodate multiple shaft gaps. They are
available in rough bore, custom bore or brushed designs.
With higher
torque and bore capacity than similar elastomer couplings, the Viva line allows
specification of smaller sizes, saving both weight and cost.
The Viva
line includes Close-Coupled and Spacer designs. Close Coupled are for use where
the gap between connected equipment is relatively small. Spacer couplings are
used in applications requiring longer shaft gaps. VSX Extended Spacer Series
couplings connect equipment requiring shaft gaps beyond the capacity of the
Spacer series. All are designed for easy retrofit of other coupling designs.
Typical applications include pumps, blowers, compressors, mixers and
other industrial uses.
Headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA,
Rexnord Industries, Inc., has supplied power transmission components, drives
and conveying equipment to process industries for over 80 years. The company
has a worldwide network of service centers and warehouses to support its
independent stocking distributors.
